Peterborough MOT Station is an independent, DVSA-approved test centre on Saville Road. We carry out Class 4 MOT tests for eligible cars and small vans, checking the items required by the MOT inspection standards and explaining any advisories or failure points in plain English.
An MOT is an inspection of specified safety and environmental standards at the time of the test. It is not a service, and a pass does not guarantee that your vehicle will remain roadworthy until next year. The MOT follows defined inspection standards. These are some of the principal areas checked, with the precise requirements depending on the vehicle.
Lights, glass, wipers and seatbelts.
The tester checks required lamps, indicators, mirrors, windscreen visibility, wipers, washers, seatbelts and relevant safety systems. Registration plates and vehicle identification are also part of the inspection.
Body, exhaust and emissions.
Vehicle structure, relevant corrosion, exhaust condition and applicable emissions requirements are assessed. Any problems recorded during the MOT are explained so you understand what needs attention.
A pass can still include minor defects or advisories. We explain what has been recorded and which items you should plan to address. A failure identifies major or dangerous defects that require attention before the vehicle can pass.
When repairs are needed, we discuss the work and obtain your agreement before proceeding. We also explain the appropriate retest arrangements. A free partial retest applies when a vehicle is left at the test centre for repairs and retested within 10 working days; other arrangements can attract a fee.
Do not drive a vehicle with a dangerous defect. A valid existing MOT certificate does not make an unsafe vehicle legal to drive.

Most cars need their first MOT at three years old, then annually, although exceptions apply. You can normally have the test up to one month minus a day before the current MOT expires and keep the same renewal date.

Before bringing your vehicle in, check that the lights and washers work, remove items that obstruct access to seatbelts and make sure the car is reasonably clean. Tell us about warning lights, unusual noises or any recent repairs rather than assuming the MOT will diagnose every problem.

Allow around 45 minutes to an hour for the test itself. Drop-off arrangements, workshop scheduling and any separately agreed repairs can affect collection time, so confirm the arrangements when you book.
Do you test vans as well as cars?
We offer Class 4 MOT testing for eligible cars and vans. Van MOT class depends on the vehicle, including its permitted weight. Send your registration and details so we can confirm suitability; do not assume every van is Class 4.
Can I drive after my MOT has expired?
There is no grace period for normal driving. Limited exceptions include travelling to a prearranged MOT or to or from repairs, but the vehicle must still be roadworthy and appropriately insured. A test booking is not permission to drive an unsafe car.

Is an MOT retest always free?
