Stanground MOT testing at Saville Road

Send your registration

For an MOT, Stanground drivers come to Peterborough MOT Station at Unit 4, Saville Road, about 4 miles by road on the north side of the River Nene. We carry out Class 4 testing for cars and eligible vans, and Saville Road is our only workshop, so every Stanground test happens at Unit 4. Send your registration and we'll review your request.

The route from Stanground

Crossing the city to Saville Road.

Stanground sits south east of the centre, so the river and the city lie between you and our workshop.

The route planner puts Saville Road about 4 miles by road from Stanground. Its suggested route leaves along the A605 Whittlesey Road, joins Fletton Avenue and then the A15 London Road, and crosses the Nene at Town Bridge. From there it follows Rivergate and Bourges Boulevard, then Westfield Road, Atherstone Avenue and Gresley Way before the turn into Saville Road.

The other option keeps you out of the centre, following Fletton Parkway (A1139) and Nene Parkway (A1260) to the A47 Soke Parkway, then leaving at Bretton Gate for Saville Road. The planner didn't choose it. Both routes work, and traffic on the day decides which is quicker, so allow extra time at busy periods.

Saville Road has several motor businesses along it, so look for Unit 4 when you arrive. We're open Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00, so plan your drop off within those hours.

Arranging a Stanground MOT

How your Stanground MOT is arranged.

Booking works by enquiry, and nothing is fixed until we've replied.

Ask for a Stanground MOT date
01 / Your request

Tell us the car and the dates that suit you.

Send the registration, the make and model and a few preferred dates. If it's a van, say so, because we test Class 4 only and need to check the vehicle falls within that class. You can see your current expiry date with the GOV.UK MOT status check.

02 / Our reply

We confirm the slot before you set off.

Sending the form doesn't book the test. The team reads your request, checks the vehicle details against the workshop diary and then confirms a date with you. Same day slots aren't promised. A little notice before the expiry date gives you more choice.

03 / On the day

Bring the car to Unit 4 for the test.

Leave the car at Saville Road for the test, and afterwards we'll talk you through the result, including any advisories or failure items and what each one means. Ask about anything unclear.

Repairs for Stanground drivers

Car repairs from the same Saville Road workshop.

An MOT often brings a repair into view, and some faults appear long before the test is due. We also repair brakes, clutches, suspension and exhausts, so you can deal with the test and the work through one team.

Grinding, a soft pedal or the car pulling to one side are worth describing when you get in touch, and our brake repairs page covers those signs more fully. A clutch that slips or bites high deserves the same attention, and the clutch repairs page explains what to look out for.

If a warning light is on and you're unsure of the cause, car diagnostics may be the better place to start. We explain the findings and the proposed work, and we agree the work and its cost with you before it starts. Describe the symptoms with your registration.

When the car shouldn't make the trip

If driving across the river doesn't feel safe.

A 4 mile drive through the city centre is a poor idea with failing brakes or a red warning light. Don't take that risk. We offer vehicle recovery for cars and small vans, and the team will look at the location and the vehicle before confirming what's possible.

Call 01733 639086 or send the details through the website, including where the car is and what it's doing.

Stanground MOT questions

Stanground driver questions.

Which way should I drive from Stanground to Saville Road?

The route planner suggests the A605 Whittlesey Road, Fletton Avenue and the A15 London Road over Town Bridge, then Bourges Boulevard and Westfield Road. The parkway alternative uses the A1139, A1260 and A47 to Bretton Gate. Pick whichever suits your timing.

What happens if my car fails its MOT?

We explain each failure item and any advisories, then discuss the repairs the car needs and why each one matters. Brakes and exhausts are repaired in the same workshop, so you won't need to find a second garage or move the car across the city again. If a defect makes the car unsafe to drive, ask about recovery and don't drive it back to Stanground.

Is Stanground one of the areas you serve?

Yes. Stanground is listed on our website alongside Peterborough, Werrington, Hampton, Orton and Yaxley. There's still only one workshop, so your car comes to Unit 4, Saville Road for its test and any repairs. Include your preferred dates so the team can match them to the diary.
